Photo series support#58

?

Sometimes one photo is not a whole story. Would be nice to group several photos into single story with particular order.

Merged Photo sets to tell a story#228

I LOVE this idea!

I’d use this. I like to group about 10 photos together with 100 word stories.

This is absolutely needed - photos often work as a more complete set, not as a one-of. I will refrain from posting anything that is meant to be viewed as a “set” until this is implemented.

Yes 100% would use this feature and think it would bring over more photojournalists and documentary photographers to the platform

May be up to 4 or 5 max , I got a few photos that I took in Liverpool, of some street photos, but they need to be put up,as a group of photos

I have notice people have been using the white borders and putting a few like that ,

I shoot in series mostly and not individually, so I totally agree with this.

Can we get more details on this feature? Asking coz it’s been such a long time since it was tagged as “Planned”? Will this be simply grouping pictures into albums or more of a photo essay feature with the ability to add rich text as short descriptions between or with photos?

Perhaps a pinned image could have a “More in this series” link that leads to the entire collection? It would be good to keep a body of work from getting lost in the scroll without having to pin the entire collection. And a separate page would provide a place for a (short) essay.

“A photo can only be a part of one Series”

I personally hope y’all will reconsider this for a couple reasons. First of all, a photo might fit in more than one series. For the serious artist with a concrete vision, every series might be meticulously planned, with each photo a very deliberate choice, but for many less focused, less methodical types it’s just an artificial limitation.

In the announcement post you say “Sharing a set of vacation photos with family? Send a Series link. Have a photography YouTube channel and tired of pretending video is a good way to view photos? Series link in the Description with every episode. Exploring a potential project or theme? See how they fit together in a Series.” These are two use cases where I absolutely wouldn’t want the only series these photos could be in to be the one place I can put them. I could want a photo of a family member in the vacation photos, but also in a series of portraits for example. And as an artist, the appeal of creating a Series for each youtube video is significant, but not if it means seperating them from other more strngly themed Series.

Finally, this limitation has an obvious workaround, which is uploading the photo multiple times. IMO this is worse for the user experience of glass than simply allowing a photo to appear in multiple series.

Don’t get me wrong, I understand the aim is to encourage deliberate decisions about what goes in what series, and to discourage “spamming” a photo, but I think those harms are less likely on a platform like glass, and outweighed by the benefits of being able to place a photo in multiple series.
