I get you don’t want to be Instagram, but a like button is a nice, easy way to acknowledge you enjoyed a photo or a comment. Would love to see that feature.
What about show “likes” only to the author, not shown to others.
happy to never have likes - mayeb some other as-yet TBC system? But keep it private to author.
Use a bit more thought and leave a thoughtful comment about what you like about the image.
The like button is too “ambigous” and utterly useless feedback.
The like button acknowledges that you’ve seen a comment or photo and appreciate it. If I want to do more than that, I will. But often, I don’t.
I note that this comment section has like buttons.
I disagree. I think the like button acknowledges that you’ve seen a comment or photo and can’t be bother to think about why and leave a thoughtful feedback. It’s lazy.
I don’t automatically assign negative connotations to a simple acknowledgment.
This comment section IS NOT GLASS
Glass hosts this comment section and chose the software that runs it. And it has a like button.
Actually the comments/feedback site is hosted on https://nolt.io.
If glass adds likes and all the other Instagram stuff then the value proposition is dubious.
Lol, the URL for this comment section is feedback.glass.photo. But you knew that.
I’m not advocating turning Glass into Instagram. Never said that.
Glass exists because of Instagram’s bloated and ad-filled ecosystem is awful. What I’m requesting is a shorthand way to express appreciation at a comment or a photo. If there’s a better way to implement that than a Like button, all for it.
I do not think that not wanting to or not being able to write a comment is a moral failing.
Just just a feedback system like Wordpress is a blog system. They aren’t responsible for it.
They’re trying to not be Instagram. And I’d like them to see how things pan out and how the community evolves before adding a simple like system.
From what I’ve read, the devs seem happier doing that too.
One more time: I’m not suggesting Glass wrote the code for this message board, I’m saying they set it up and run it as is evidenced by the url and the greeting on the top level of this board. Pedantic much?
The first two days I missed the like button. But now, I think it’s great without! A like button invites to fast scrolling and double-tapping images. A comment gives the photographer a personal feedback that actually means something. I love that glass made something different here and went another way! Keep up with that!
I also would be cautious about adding the like button. I found it jarring at first but now enjoy how it puts the focus on more meaningful responses in comments
