NSFW (not porn, but artistic nudes etc.)#15

S

Hey team, just found your app/site and wonder as an artist that also works in artistic nudes and stuff that might be considered nsfw… how is that handled on your app/site?

cheers.

Many services have missed the opportunity here to have users both flag their work for content, and filter on what kind of content they want to see. Only Flickr seems to have this today. If people are offended by nudity, I’d recommend Glass give them a way to not have that appear in their experience. For photographers who work in that space, allow them to find their peers and share their work. The enforcement can then be when photographers do not properly label their work.

I am with you, would just love to hear from the team, I agree that there are good ways to go about this, also I can see how it can be complicated for a company. I guess some of us professionals are here to help with advise if needed.

I also have to admit I did not do a lot of research on how glass handles that, and I am not in yet :D exciting stuff either way.

Thanks for asking. We actually explain this in our Code of Conduct: On the issue of nudity — we unfortunately can’t allow nudes at this time. This is due to guidelines put in place by Apple. We hope to allow this in the future with proper filtering and improved web tools.

Thank you for getting back to us, I found the code of conduct, was just hoping for a bit more detail maybe? is covered by hands and arms enough or is it the ammount of skin or do “cencor”bars suffice etc etc. :D sorry for bothering oyu with that. looking forward to a future where work like this is not a problem.

If this gets built, would be nice to have some kind dismissable blurred overlay similar to the ‘sensitive content’ overlay on insta or twitter. There are things that would be fine to come up in the feed if I’m scrolling at home but definitely not on a busy subway train

Now there is a web version and Glass is no longer entirely tied to Apple’s backwards and censorious rules, the reasoning against nudity is no longer entirely relevant. Could we see this rule relaxed, even if those photos can only be seen/posted on the Web version?

So…a picture of David by Michaelangelo is not allowed?

I agree with Daphne Preston-Kendal. If the apple rules are the issue, it would make sense imo to allow it on the other platforms and make sure users classify their photos correctly.

There are other apps with NSFW content that are allowed on app store (Reddit, Twitter) but I think the trick is that the default experience should not include NSFW content. In any Reddit app, for example, you have to go into your account settings to enable it.

Nope… very very quiet…
My original post is about 1,5 years old.
Besides that, censorship only has become stricter on most platforms.
In a few years we’re only allowed to watch cat photos…

Vero and instagram come from Apple Store and both allow nudity and artistic-related nudity and sexual photography, to allow people to express their personality. Like some ppl like bondage or other stuff and they should be allowed to post related artistic photos (respecting the guidelines), without being censured.
